Bloom To Bust
Final Major Project On The Study Of Botanical Life Cycle
My final major project was a self directed brief. I had spent the summer visiting London museums, Notting Hill Carnival, travelled the South East Spanish coast and cities as well as attending the Tomatina, a tomato throwing festival I had been wanting to visit for years for my birthday. With such a rich memory bank of content, it was hard for me to get off the ground with choosing the direction of my brief. Coupled with a new work promotion and harbouring a knee injury, deciding on what would signify my final collection was a heavy thought process that pressured my start to the project.
Digging deeper I let go of some of my summer journeys and reverted back to my love of the botanical lifecycle. A topic I had written about in my essay, how beauty can be found in death and how nature has a way to regenerate. With an abundance of vases full of drying flowers, much to the annoyance of my family, I began to draw and capture flowers seeding all of the way to growing and decaying.
Inspiration came from my favourite Valery Hergarty and a photographer named Keith Dotson. Following my passion for multi media I had a strong inclination to produce a copper metal piece as well as interior focussed wallpapers, fabric samples and lampshades. I thoroughly enjoyed the making process and this is where I am comfortable. This module also taught me more than the practical, but how to present and showcase my work, look for opportunities and have a presentation pack ready and available to go hunting for my next opportunity.
